COMPANY HISTORY

Dennis E. Yates founded his own architectural practice in Concord, NC, in the summer of 1984 after leaving J.N. Pease Associates. Originally established as Dennis Yates Associates, the firm began as a one-person operation. In 1987, longtime friend and fellow NC State alumnus Mike Chreitzberg joined the firm, bringing with him valuable design insight and experience from his work with a national architectural firm in Denver, Colorado. With Mike’s addition, the firm was renamed Yates Chreitzberg Architects. In 1995, Bill Hughes joined the firm after graduating from Virginia Tech and has since spent his entire professional career with the practice. After 14 years of dedicated service, Bill was named principal, and the firm became Yates Chreitzberg Hughes—now known as YCH Architects. In the spring of 2022, Dennis and Mike both retired, and Bill Hughes now serves as the firm’s primary principal. For over 40 years, YCH Architects has thrived in the Charlotte region, delivering planning and architectural design services to clients of all sizes throughout the Southeast. Today, the firm continues to grow, advancing a new generation of talented architects and designers with the same commitment to collaboration, quality, and thoughtful design.

VISION & CULTURE

YCH Architects measures the ultimate success of a project by exceeding our clients’ expectations and not on awards or recognitions or the number of projects in our portfolio. The cornerstone of this success is a project leadership and design ideology founded on the principles of collaboration and interaction with the client, design team, consultants, and contractors. Collaboration, dedication, and teamwork have allowed our small firm to complete a wide variety of projects ranging from modest renovations to multi-million dollar newly-constructed facilities.

RELATIONSHIPS

Our size allows each project to be designed and managed by one of the firm’s principals. One-on-one client collaboration occurs on every project and ensures a successful relationship and project outcome.

ENGAGEMENT

Full engagement and participation in the design process draws upon the collective knowledge, creativity, candor, and experience of all participants - including our clients.

This interaction draws upon each team member’s strengths and encourages collective thought, which serves to minimize risk and promote the success of any project, no matter how large or small.

DEDICATED

Several of our current employees are still at their first job - decades later. We’re a tight-knit group committed to getting the work done.

COLLABORATIVE

The best projects develop when the entire group sits down and digs in. Energetic collaboration with all team members leads to innovative solutions for our clients and fosters a team mentality in the office.
